Co-operative Financial Institution Proposal

We are planning to transform Lighthouse Education Fund stokvel into a registered co-operative bank, also known as a Co-operative Financial Institution (CFI).

A CFI is the umbrella term for member-based deposit-taking financial co- peratives, owned and controlled by their members.

One of the key differentiators between a Co-operative Financial Institution (CFI) and other types of banks is that it is member owned and controlled. This implies differences in their purpose of establishment. Firstly, co-operatives are formed when a “group of people”, come
together having identified a need for services or products that are needed. The purpose of coming together is to help one another to address this need and to see how they can, as a collective, provide services to members in a sustainable manner (covering their expenses).

About Us

Lighthouse Educational Fund is an investment stokvel club formed on the 17th of March 2017 to harness the power of group contributions and invest these contributions in business. The proceeds from these funds will be invested in the education sector. We intend to invest in schools and teacher training colleges

Potential members must consider that investments to be made by Lighthouse Education Fund Stokvel are of a medium to long term basis. There are other benefits to members that the executive committee will consider from time to time, however, the primary benefit will be a shareholding in the group of schools and teacher training colleges and distributions in the form
of interest and dividends.
